Dutch Research Council NWO awards Tine De Moor VICI Grant
The Dutch Research Council (NWO) has awarded Tine De Moor of our research team an additional VICI grant for the research proposal 'UNICA. Building a UNified theory for the development and resilience of Institutions for Collective Action for Europe in the past millennium'. After a rebuttal procedure, the NWO board has awarded the grant to this research project, to be carried out by Tine De Moor and her research team Institutions for Collective Action. This project will study the development of citizens' collectivities over the past millennium in order to discover common organizational models and factors that promote sustainability and resilience of such 老王2.2.3.

Tine De Moor invited speaker at IASC Commons webinar 'Commons & Crises' (online via Zoom, 29 June)
Tine De Moor was the invited speaker on June 29 at a webinar of the webinar series organized by the International Association for the Study of the Commons in cooperation with the Center for Behavior, Institutions and the Environment and the Resilience Alliance. The theme of Tine De Moor's lecture was 'Commons & crises: Understanding the emergence and functioning of institutions for collective action in relation to transitions in the past millenium'.

After the first lecture by Eva Vriens on mutualism in the 21st century, we now offer the lecture 'Resilience and the dynamics of Institutions for Collective Action in the past millennium' by Tine De Moor, originally delivered at and recorded for the SCOOP program by Erik Heuvelink. Essay Tine De Moor over burgerparticipatie 'De pro-sociale burger als co-piloot'

De zoektocht naar een andere relatie tussen burgers en overheid zorgt voor tal van uitdagingen voor maar creëert ook kansen om tot effectief beleid te komen. Tine De Moor, hoogleraar aan de Universiteit Utrecht, gaat in het online essay 'De pro-sociale burger als co-piloot', op de website van het magazine Publiek Denken gaat nader in op dit vraagstuk. Volgens haar denken beleidsmakers te weinig na over de vraag op welke manier burgerparticipatie wordt vormgeven. Bovendien vindt elke gemeente zijn eigen wiel uit en is er een wildgroei aan terminologie. Burgers willen niet langer het landingsplatform zijn dat draagvlak veronderstelt, aldus De Moor. Integendeel, ze willen de aanvliegroute van beleid mede bepalen. In dit essay pleit zij voor een geïntegreerde aanpak van betrokkenheid van burgers, door de beleidsdomeinen heen. Het essay is mede geschreven binnen het kader van het DuurzaamDoor programma, het multistakeholder kennisprogramma van overheden en maatschappelijke organisaties, waarvan het programmabureau is ondergebracht bij de Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland.
New article on rediscovery of mutualism in current-day society by Eva Vriens and Tine De Moor
The academic open-acces journal Social Inclusion has just published a new paper by team members Eva Vriens and Tine De Moor, entitled 'Mutuals on the Move: Exclusion Processes in the Welfare State and the Rediscovery of Mutualism'. Mutual insurance systems have been on the rise across the world for about a decennium. In various forms and for various goods and services they respond to gaps left in social security by both governments and markets. Vriens and De Moor use historical insights to analyse several new mutual insurance organisations and discuss their future opportunities. And while not foreseen at the time of writing, this discussion has become more relevant than ever: Another boost in mutualism may very well be around the corner following the health crisis we’re facing all over the world.

Colloquium Gide 2020: Coöperations (Lausanne, 10-12 September 2020)
Tine De Moor will be one of the keynote lecturers at the eighteenth international conference of the Charles Gide Association will be held at the University of Lausanne (UNIL), 10-12 September 2020, under the auspices of the Centre Walras Pareto d’études interdisciplinaires de la pensée économique et politique (CWP). The theme of the conference will be on ‘Co-operation’, a topic that has generated debates in the field of economic, social, political, and philosophical thought, and its numerous historical forms. Team member Damion Bunders will also be presenting a paper at the conference.

Article by Tine De Moor in Science on resilience of commons
Tine De Moor states in an article in Science that historical, longitudinal analysis is needed to learn what really matters when striving towards resilience in commons. This analysis is vital in order to support contemporary commons with scientifically supported advice today. Professor De Moor was invited by Science to give the historian’s perspective, for the special issue related to the 50th anniversary of Garett Hardin’s article 'The Tragedy of the Commons'. Science also published a podcast related to this article with interviews with Tine De Moor and Brett Frischman.
