Updates: This website launched in late March and is in a continuous process of being updated and fleshed out. Most content so far has been posted 好用的梯子. In early May, I posted the first Fragment, Above the Waves, a short work of fiction that is something between a scene and a story.

An original story, “The Face of the Deep,” has been posted in three installments on the blog in late July and early August; click here for links to all three installments. Additionally, the full story is available for purchase in PDF format for $1.49.

Publisher of Into the Ruins, a quarterly magazine of deindustrial science fiction, Joel Caris is an author and essayist who cuts across genres, engaging elements of science fiction, magical realism, horror, weird fiction, and literary fiction. Recurrent themes in his work include ecology, environmentalism, farming and gardening, appropriate technology, mythology, polytheism, the occult, and more. He believes in the power of storytelling to reshape the narratives of our times. He also believes that stories should be entertaining and unpretentious. It’s a balancing act.

Joel lives in Portland, Oregon with his wife Kate. He works for a local food nonprofit, spent five years working on small scale, sustainable farms in the Pacific Northwest, gardens, preserves food, walks around the city and takes the occasional hike, enjoys road trips and visiting national parks, and reads voraciously.
